GUINESS WORLD RECORD for the

LONGEST BRA CHAIN

In March I received an e.mail about a Girl Guide Group Leader from Dargaville, who

was asking women to send her their old bras.  At first I thought it might be a hoax, so

I contacted her.  The Bra Drive is genuine and I thought you would all like to help.

Below is her letter and her contact details.

Should you wish to donate your old or ill fitting bras, you can either send them direct

to Robyn, or you can deliver them to me at 12B Homestead Drive, St. Johns, Auckland,1072

“Hi,

This year the Breast Cancer Foundation has asked Girl Guiding NZ to help raise awareness for breast cancer.  I struggled with the idea on how I was going to get my unit to do this.  Whilst flipping through the kids Guinness World Record book I came across the record for the longest bra chain.  I thought this would be a FANTASTIC way for my Girl Guides to contribute…Imagine if a small unit from Dargaville managed to break this Record!!  The record currently is held by Australia at 166,000 bras.  It took them 3 years to achieve this.  I have set a goal to have this achieved by November 2010.

This opportunity is also a fantastic way for the Guides to achieve their Community Action and help them realize they have a voice that will be heard.

At the end of this, all bra’s in good condition will be sent to organizations like Breast Mate in Cambridge who distribute them to ladies in Africa.  This ties in nicely with the Girl Guide Thinking day.  The topic for Thinking Day this year is “World Poverty”.  This will help the girls become aware of the countries that are far less fortunate than ours.

What I am asking is if you, or anyone you know, have any old bras you no longer use that you could send to us to help smash this record!  Whether you have 1 bra or 100 it doesn’t matter because it all helps!
